Italy Announces 15000 Visas For Pakistanis

In a recent interview, Italy’s Ambassador to Pakistan Andreas Ferrarese announced that Rome issued visas for more than 15,000 Pakistanis last year. He expects that the number of visas will continue to rise this year.

According to the envoy, Pakistan’s population of 220 million people represents a large market for Italian goods. Both nations are facing similar energy difficulties and are turning to renewable sources.

1. Economic cooperation

The development cooperation program in Pakistan is a major part of the Italian contribution to the UNDP global portfolio and is fully co-funded by the EU through the Multiannual Indicative Programme (MIP) 2021-2027. It focuses on the socioeconomic development of the country, with a particular focus on poverty reduction and the improvement of the living conditions of poor and vulnerable Communities. The program includes the implementation of major initiatives on sustainable development, organic or conventional farming, alternative and renewable sources, gender policies, and health and education.

2. Energy reforms

Italy has had a long-standing interest in renewable energy, especially solar and hydro-power. Its national energy strategy (NECP) seeks to meet EU targets for 32% of final energy consumption coming from renewable sources by 2030 and reduce CO2 emissions by 40% compared to 1990 levels.
